| Polar Bear Golf and Polar Bears at play |
| Artist Bob Patterson who is a avid golfer and plays to a very low handicap was playing with friends in Alaska. Bob had a very bad day on the course and had to cough up several hard earned dollars at the club house plus, to make matters worst, he had to buy the first round. Bad Dice. After the pain of money changing hands and paying the bartender he sat down to enjoy his beer. Well to add to his dilemma he accidentally spilled his beer all over his lap. It just wasn't his day. Turning to his buddies with a little embarrassment he stated that this shouldn't happen to a polar bear much less me. Jim his playing partner turned and said," now that's a good idea! " Bob came back with, "what the heck do you mean a good idea." Jim stated that he wasn't talking about the beer in your lap he was thinking that I should do some paintings with bears playing golf it would be hilarious. A sip of beer and a few moments of thought while his pants were drying he slammed down his beer and said," NOW THAT'S A GOOD IDEA." They all started talking about the different poses and mannerisms of golfers and soon the pants were dry and everyone was a little tipsy. Thank God they didn't have to go to far to be safe. The next day Bob started doing some sketches and working up a series of sayings and mannerisms that golfing bears could do. The first two paintings he made several copies which sold out in a couple of days. When he finished the series he had enough paintings to make calendars and more. Well as the story goes the first week Bob sold 700 prints and everyone wanted more. This story ends here as the polar bears just might want a piece of the action. |
BOB PATTERSON was awarded the title of Alaska Artist of the Year in 1997 by Northwest Artisans Magazine and he was titled as a master artist. Bob spent a lot of time in Alaska over the last 45 years as his career in construction management for several companies in Alaska required his presents. When he retired from construction in 1994 he needed something that would keep him active and a complete change from the pressures of management. Being a amateur artist and loving the outdoors he decided to try art as a profession. Having a sense of humor and a eye for the Alaskan landscape he began a new career of becoming a master artist of many medias. After opening a one man Gallery in Anchorage and producing over 1000 originals in many media he decided to close his gallery 2004 and move from Alaska to La Conner,Washington. Asked why he moved? He would tell you that he wanted a walk around town with less than 1000 people so he could make a difference in his new surroundings. |
